Minimally Invasive/Robotic Surgery

Kendall Regional Medical Center offers the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques including, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery.

Minimally invasive technology is completely changing the way physicians approach surgical procedures. A surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen area, through which a small video camera and thin instruments are inserted to perform the procedure. The surgeon can view the procedure through a video monitor that provides a magnified view of the surgical site..

da Vinci Surgical System

The latest technology in minimally invasive procedures is the da Vinci(R) Surgical System. This state-of-the-art robotic system enhances the capabilities of surgeons for a series of complex surgeries, such as gallbladder removal, colon resection, hysterectomies and prostatectomies. The robot has three surgical arms that have been engineered to precisely mimic the movement of the surgeon's fingers, wrists and hands. The robot can only be controlled by the surgeon while the surgeon sits at the console. Its enhanced high-definition 3D vision helps the surgeon see tissue planes in three dimensions, as the human eye would see it, to enable a more precise surgical technique..

Single-Site™ da Vinci® Surgery

Patients needing gallbladder surgery or hysterectomy could be candidates for Single-Site(tm) da Vinci(R) Surgery. This procedure is performed through a single incision using state-of-the-art precision instruments. Patients who choose Single-Site da Vinci(R) Surgery
experience a virtually scarless procedure since surgery is performed through only one incision in the navel (belly button), which dramatically limits visible scarring.

Aside from its minimally invasive approach, the robotic surgical system also offers great benefits to patients: less blood loss, less chance of infection, a shorter hospital stay, less pain, scarring and faster recovery.

Procedures

Many procedures can be performed using minimally invasive or robotic techniques, such as:
