Kendall Regional Medical Center Recognized As a Top 100 Hospital in the Nation for the Sixth Time

Kendall Regional Medical Center is honored to announce that the facility has been selected for the 2007 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals® National Benchmark award. This is the sixth time the hospital has received this prestigious recognition. Selection is based on an annual study conducted by Thomson Healthcare (formerly Solucient), which identifies benchmarks for the highest hospital-wide performance in hospitals across the country. The study is based on objective statistical performance measurement of four critical areas: clinical process and outcomes; patient safety; operational efficiency; and financial stability.

“Being selected as one of the 100 Top Hospitals can only be achieved through the concerted efforts of everyone connected with our facility,” said Mauricio Sirvent, CEO of Kendall Regional Medical Center. “Congratulations on winning this achievement must go to our employees and medical staff. I can’t thank them enough for all their hard work.”

Thomson Healthcare estimates that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as the 100 Top Hospitals: more than 120,000 additional patients would survive every year; more than 138,000 patient complications would be avoided annually; expenses would decline by an aggregate $6.2 billion a year; the average patient stay would decrease by more than half a day.

All 2007 honorees will be recognized at the 100 Top Hospitals Summit in Colorado Springs on June 4-6.

Kendall Regional Medical Center also earned the 2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Overall Clinical Excellence from HealthGrades, the largest independent healthcare ratings organization in the nation. This recognition places the facility among the Top 5% of hospitals in the country. HealthGrades also recognized Kendall Regional with Clinical Excellence Awards in four specialties: Stroke Care, Pulmonary Care, Critical Care and Maternity Care.

For the past decade, Thomson Healthcare has conducted an annual study to identify the nation’s top organization-wide performers, using the two most recent years of data. The data comes from public sources, including the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data set, and the Medicare Cost Report. The study focuses on short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of patients. Hospitals are classified into comparison groups based on bed size and teaching status. Every organization is scored on a set of weighted performance measures that focus on clinical excellence, operating efficiency, financial health and responsiveness to the community.

Kendall Regional Medical Center is a 412-bed, full-service hospital providing the residents of Southwest Miami-Dade County with 24-hour comprehensive medical, surgical and diagnostic services, as well as a wide range of patient and community services. The hospital has been recognized among the finest in South Florida, and has earned the prestigious Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Benchmarks for Success award six times.
