It's National Burn Awareness Week, Feb. 1-7, and Kendall Regional Medical Center’s burn center wants to educate and prevent burn injuries to both children and adults. Dr. Carlos Medina, a plastic surgeon and medical director of Kendall Regional's burn center, shares tips to prevent children from suffering burn accidents during Burn Awareness Week:

  • Make sure water heater is set just below medium
  • Keep cords and items away from the edges of counters
  • Create a "No Kids" zone
  • Turn pot handles towards the back of the stove
  • Always test bath water before putting a child into it
