South Florida Burn Victims Speak During National Burn Awareness Week

South Florida burn victims are sharing their unfortunate personal experiences and safety tips during National Burn Awareness Week.

Dr. Carlos Medina, a plastic surgeon and medical director of Kendall Regional's burn center, shared some tips to prevent children from suffering burn accidents during Burn Awareness Week, including never putting ice on the blister.

"Now you can apply cold water or clean the burn area and then usually put on a moisturizing cream or antibiotic ointment," Medina said.

Kendall Regional is one of six burn centers in South Florida, and treats patients from Port St. Lucie to Naples. If you or a loved one do get burned, you should locate your nearest burn center, and seek medical evaluation immediately.
